Mellanox 20Gb/s InfiniBand Virtualizes Blade Servers With Scalable I/O

Modular Server Platforms Showcase Unprecedented Data Center Agility and Mass Deployment of Virtualized Desktops

Mellanox InfiniBand connected blade servers dynamically provision into scalable, service-centric pools of computing resources and virtualized for corporate desktop deployments. Flexible I/O modules facilitate independent scaling of InfiniBand connected processing blades and the number of I/O connections that are used to seamlessly integrate into existing data center infrastructure.  InfiniBand-based blade servers provide data centers with optimal total cost of ownership and features:

  • Virtualized I/O modules that provide agility, flexibility and consolidation benefits
  • Power-efficient switch and single-chip, 20Gb/s adapter silicon that facilitate dense, space-saving systems
  • Intelligent InfiniBand I/O architecture that drive the deployment of cost-effective virtualized desktops
InfiniBand supports channels-based IO enabling consolidation of all data center connectivity functions

“InfiniBand building blocks from Mellanox enable compute resources to be dynamically matched with each I/O component, facilitating unprecedented server performance and scalability,” said Scott Rose, Vice President of Product Management at PANTA Systems. “The PANTAmatrix system has been able to demonstrate greater than 10X performance improvements for actual compute and I/O intensive customer workloads such as streams processing. In addition, server reconfiguration is possible within minutes, in order to match workload demands, using the System Management interface.”

Come see Mellanox at Interop Vegas - April 30 - May 5, 2006

Come hear the latest and greatest update on InfiniBand technology, how it is reshaping computing and storage connectivity in the data center, high-performance computing, storage and embedded markets. (Download free exhibition pass!)

See it live!

Mellanox will have several running customer demos in our booth (1382) that showcases InfiniBand's unbeatable performance:

Voltaire (www.voltaire.com) will demonstrate a solution that enables users to create and centrally manage virtual connectivity and I/O for Xen-based virtual servers.  Users will be able to take advantage of the solution to maximize the data center infrastructure, unifying InfiniBand, Ethernet and Fibre Channel through the use of Voltaire’s Grid Director™ ISR 9096 multi-service switch and Voltaire’s management software.  By leveraging 20Gb/s InfiniBand users can migrate and deploy virtual servers at unprecedented speeds.

Diversified Technology (www.dtims.com) will feature its Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) “Fabric Race” demo.  ATCA is an open-standard, fabric-agnostic architecture developed by the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG, www.picmg.org). This demo pits Gigabit Ethernet (ATCA 3.1 sub-specification) versus InfiniBand (via ATCA 3.2 sub-specification) and features real-time benchmarking of bandwidth, latency, and CPU utilization for random packet sizes. Typical applications for this high availability chassis are industrial automation, transportation monitoring, multimedia broadcasting, government R&D projects, and military command and control.
