InfiniBand Shines with Digital Content Creation
"RenderBender" Demonstration Showcases Performance Benefits Up to Three Times Faster With New Dual-Core Intel Processors and Mellanox 20Gb/s InfiniBand
At SIGGRAPH '06, ASUS Computer International, Autodesk, Intel Corporation, Ciara Technologies, Mellanox Technologies, NVIDIA Corporation, Pixar Animation Studios and Western Digital, led an industry demonstration of Ciara's "RenderBender" render farm, showcasing exceptional computing power and unmatched performance per-watt using industry standard building blocks including InfiniBand, multi-core, multi-threading and Fully Buffered DIMM (FB-DIMM) technologies.
"This collaborative demonstration highlights the benefits that are driving so many organizations to make Mellanox 10 and 20Gb/s InfiniBand their interconnect of choice," said Thad Omura, Vice President of Product Marketing at Mellanox Technologies. "By dramatically increasing the compute power available to applications, as well as eliminating storage I/O bottlenecks, InfiniBand based clusters feed the ever-growing creative and visualization demands of the digital creation market."
Autodesk Introduces New Versions of its Visual Effects and Editing Systems
To address the need for greater connectivity, the new systems from Autdesk offer expanded interoperability and improved data management, including support for the Autodesk Wiretap 2007 application program interface. Wiretap enables remote project management and third-party file exchange by allowing platform- independent access to media and metadata in the Autodesk Stone file system. Digital artists can now take advantage of InfiniBand networking with throughput of 400 MB per second or more.
OpenFabrics Alliance - 2006 OpenFabrics Joint Developer's Conference, September 25, 2006
The InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) and Open Fabrics Alliance (OFA) will hold a joint developers conference on September 25 at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco in co-location with the Fall 2006 Intel Developer Forum (IDF). These two organizations continue to drive industry-standard solutions to the market based on InfiniBand interconnect technology and a common software stack. The conference will bring these organizations together, along with application developers, systems vendors, hardware and software solution providers and end users of the technology.
The agenda will include:
- Keynote presentations by industry executives supporting the advancement of both IBTA and OFA
- End users sharing experiences on real-life deployment and usage of the technology
- Highlights of the recent advancements of the InfiniBand specification by IBTA
- Updates on the availability of InfiniBand-supported software solutions from OFA and industry partners
- Collaborative sessions and discussions about future joint developments between IBTA and OFA
Attendees who register by September 1st can do so for the early-bird rate of $149. Afterwards, the standard registration fee is $199. Attendees may also purchase conference passes to IDF at a discounted rate of $750 - a savings of $745 off the standard rate!
