Mellanox 10 Gigabit Ethernet Products Demonstrate Industry-Wide Interoperability at UNH IOL Summit

ConnectX Adapter CardMellanox announced successful completion of interoperability testing of its ConnectX EN 10GigE NIC products with other 10 Gigabit Ethernet vendors at the recent University of New Hampshire Interoperability Lab summit.

“We were pleased that Mellanox participated in the first Summit,” said Bob Noseworthy, technical director of the UNH-IOL. “The industry as a whole benefits when companies come together and we can facilitate a spirit of collaboration and objectivity. The result is a stronger, richer variety of connectivity solutions for the core data center and cluster environments.”

IBRIX and Mellanox Offer the First InfiniBand-Attached Scalable NAS Solution

At Storage Networking World, Mellanox and IBRIX announced the first scalable Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution that offers network connectivity using InfiniBand interconnect technology. The joint solution, which leverages industry standards, is targeted to customers with data-intensive applications in the financial services, media/entertainment, life sciences, telecommunications and manufacturing industries.

“Unlike other cluster file serving solutions that use InfiniBand for only the internal cluster interconnects or require proprietary protocols to benefit from high-speed InfiniBand interconnect, IBRIX is the first enterprise-class scalable NAS solution to make the power of InfiniBand technology available directly to applications using industry-standard protocols such as NFS,” said Sudhir Srinivasan, Chief Technology Officer of IBRIX. “IBRIX and Mellanox have demonstrated peak performance in excess of 1 gigabyte per second from a single 1u server, delivering unparalleled performance density.”

Appro wins Huge Deal with Three National Laboratories for 438 TeraFlop High Performance Computing Clusters based on Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ Processors

The project consists of a total of 3,024 nodes, 12,096 processors/48,384 cores with up to 96.8TB of memory. These Appro high performance clusters will be based on Quad-Core AMD Opteron™ processors connected with a two stage InfiniBand 20 Gb/s 4X Double Data Rate (DDR) fabric featuring Voltaire Grid Director™ 288 port core switches. These clusters feature the latest Mellanox Technologies ConnectX IB 20Gb/s dual-port InfiniBand adapters and ConnectX EN dual port 10 Gigabit Ethernet NICs for storage cluster connectivity. These high performance clusters will be deployed to the tri-Labs community starting in late 2007 through early 2008.

“The ability to provide a scalable unit in multiple scalable clusters to all three national Lab sites with a 30-50% lower TCO is of great value to NNSA’s effort to apply high performance computing to time-urgent national security challenges,” said Mark Seager, Advanced Computing Technology lead for LLNL. “In the past, high-end Linux clusters were more expensive and difficult to integrate and deploy. By defining this Scalable Unit “building block” approach to structure these multiple cluster deployments using COTS parts, the tri-Labs are able to significantly reduce TCO, simplify the integration and deployment of multiple Linux clusters at all three Laboratories and put highly needed capacity clusters into production on an accelerated timeline.”
