Mellanox’s Big Data Unstructured Data Accelerator (UDA) Selected as Finalist for ‘Best of Interop’ Award

An open source software that doubles performance for Hadoop based data analytic applications to enable business decision at near real-time

SUNNYVALE, CA. and YOKNEAM, ISRAEL – May 1, 2013 – Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX; TASE: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end interconnect solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced that the Unstructured Data Accelerator (UDA) has been selected as a finalist for the ‘Best of Interop’ in the ‘Performance Optimization and Testing’ category. UDA is an open-source acceleration package accelerating Hadoop Map Reduce framework, and provides RDMA acceleration for the shuffle and merge process within the MapReduce analytical engine. The RDMA capabilities deliver a lower latency, higher bandwidth data movement in the Hadoop cluster, while lowering the CPU overhead for handling network operations.

UDA 3.1 brings new capabilities to the Hadoop framework by:

  • Supporting compression enabled intermediate data, to accelerate network traffic.
  • High availability and resiliency features for faster and smoother operations
  • Plugin acceptance into the Apache open source Hadoop 2.0.x & 3.0.x
  • RDMA Performance enhancements
  • Commercial distribution support: Cloudera CDH 4.x and Hortonworks HDP 1.x
  • Open source code community formation

“UDA 3.1 delivers new levels of performance and resiliency to the well-known Big Data Hadoop framework by reducing the Hadoop processing time by nearly 50 percent while simultaneously increasing CPU efficiency,” said Kevin Deierling, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “Mellanox's UDA acceleration package enables data analytic applications to run faster, enabling enterprises that use data and business analytics to drive decision-making to become more productive and deliver higher return on equity.”p>

Availability
UDA 3.1 is an open-source, free, software acceleration package. The UDA plugin is distributed through the latest Hadoop releases from the Apache Hadoop community and the commercial releases using Apache Hadoop as their base application. UDA has its own Google code community at: https://code.google.com/p/uda-plugin
Mellanox also offers a UDA 3.1 demonstration platform that includes Apache Hadoop and UDA 3.1 acceleration software, ConnectX-3 FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand adapters and an SX6036, 36-port FDR 56Gb/s InfiniBand switch.
