Blekko Selects Mellanox 10 Gigabit Ethernet to Provide Superior Performance Search Infrastructure

Mellanox Vantage 6048 10GbE Switches Enable Blekko to Combine Speed with Search Relevance

SUNNYVALE, CA. and YOKNEAM, ISRAEL – March 14, 2011 – Mellanox® Technologies, Ltd. (NASDAQ: MLNX; TASE: MLNX), a leading supplier of high-performance, end-to-end connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage systems, today announced that search company Blekko selected Mellanox’s Vantage 6048 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches as the core backbone for its data center fabric and search infrastructure. A new kind of search engine, Blekko delivers the most relevant results by enabling users to indicate sites they want to receive content from via “slashtags,” a way to allow users to get results from only the sites they want and remove spam sites. At any given time, Blekko is crawling more than three billion Web pages and reports the top results on specific topics.

“Blekko’s competitive advantage is search relevance combined with speed,” said Rich Skrenta, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer at Blekko. “Mellanox’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches enable us to offer our users the best possible search experience, as well as provide us the ability to scale-out our IT operations without adding complexity or losing efficiency.”

Provided as a cloud rack solution, the Mellanox Vantage 6048 switches fit Blekko’s needs for extremely high throughput, low-latency, non-blocking, highly available and reliable communications between servers and storage. In addition, Mellanox’s Unified Fabric Manager™ (UFM™) software offers intelligent network orchestration and congestion monitoring and management tools to keep the system running at optimum performance and efficiency.

“Efficient search requires efficient infrastructure,” said Patrick Guay, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies. “By taking advantage of Mellanox’s 10 Gigabit Ethernet fabric solutions, Blekko has the infrastructure in place to deliver optimal performance and accuracy for its users.”

Mellanox’s Vantage family of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, combined with ConnectX-2 EN 10 Gigabit Ethernet NICs, software and cables, provides end-users with best-of-breed, end-to-end Ethernet performance, efficiency and reliability. The Mellanox Vantage 6048 provides 48 ports of 10 Gigabit Ethernet line-rate connectivity and non-blocking switching throughput of 960 Gbps. It also offers the industry’s lowest power consumption of 6.3 watts/port to deliver superior application performance, as well as data center efficiency. In addition, the Vantage 6048 consolidates multiple/redundant network tiers and significantly reduces infrastructure expenses.
