Mellanox InfiniBand Delivers Break-through I/O Performance on Dual Core Processor Server Platforms

20Gb/s InfiniBand garners mass industry support and is ready for mainstream deployments

INTERNATIONAL SUPERCOMPUTER CONFERENCE 2006, DRESDEN, GERMANY, – June 27, 2006 – Mellanox™ Technologies Ltd, the leader in business and technical computing interconnects, today announced that its InfiniHost™ III Ex 20Gb/s host channel adapters (HCAs) recorded the highest throughput of any industry-standard fabric interconnect and are being deployed in Enterprise Data Center and High-Performance Computing server and storage clusters. When installed in platforms using the new Dual-Core Intel® Xeon® Processor 5100 series (codenamed Woodcrest) and running industry standard benchmarks over OpenFabrics ( software, Mellanox InfiniHost III Ex adapters achieved an unprecedented bi-directional throughput of three Gigabytes per second. This performance is demanded by bandwidth-hungry applications that immediately benefit from increased I/O throughput such as data warehousing, oil and gas exploration, and weather analysis.

Mass Industry Support for 20Gb/s InfiniBand
In addition to the deployment of 20Gb/s InfiniBand in multi-core server platforms, blade server platforms, such as the recently announced HP BladeSystem c-Class system, are driving this connectivity performance into mainstream data center and high-performance computing environments. The industry is complementing these computing platforms with a wide range of 20Gb/s InfiniBand infrastructure solutions from vendors including Cisco Systems, Inc., SilverStorm Technologies, and Voltaire. The growing ecosystem of InfiniBand 20Gb/s technology-based suppliers is heralding the dawn of a new generation of cluster and grid deployments where the bar for application performance and resource deployment flexibility is being raised to unprecedented levels.

In addition, copper cables supporting 20Gb/s InfiniBand over distances of at least 10 meters are available from several leading vendors including Amphenol Corporation, Leoni AG, Meritec and W. L. Gore & Associates. These cables have been proven to be robust by Mellanox and industry-partners who have performed extensive testing over a wide range of lengths, gauges, and environments.
